One of the biggest hits of the Met Opera’s 2019–20 season, Philip Glass’s Akhnaten is the third installment in the composer’s Portrait Trilogy focused on revolutionary figures from world history. Starring as the ancient Egyptian pharaoh who attempted to radically alter his society, countertenor Anthony Roth Costanzo headlines this performance from the Live in HD series.

Glass: Satyagraha

CD/DVD APR 2011

One of the most striking productions in recent Met history, Phelim McDermott’s visionary take on Philip Glass’s Satyagraha is now available on DVD. The opera, which stars tenor Richard Croft as Gandhi, follows the 20th century trailblazer as he developed his philosophy of non-violent resistance in South Africa between 1896 and 1913. Dante Anzolini conducts this astonishing 2011 Live in HD transmission.

Verdi: Macbeth

DVD OCT 2015

Star soprano Anna Netrebko created a sensation in her first Met performances as the malevolent Lady Macbeth, the central character in Verdi’s retelling of Shakespeare’s tragedy. She is joined by Željko Lucic, who brings dramatic intensity and vocal authority to the title role of the honest general driven to murder and deceit by his ambitious wife. René Pape is Banquo, Joseph Calleja is Macduff, and Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi presides over Adrian Noble’s atmospheric production.

Tchaikovsky: Eugene Onegin

The Met’s new staging of Tchaikovsky s passionately lyrical masterpiece is the first DVD/Blu-ray release featuring Anna Netrebko in one of Russian opera s greatest and most demanding roles. Puccini: La Fanciulla del West

Strauss: Salome

With Strauss’s groundbreaking music magnifying the degenerate atmosphere and building the erotic tension, [Salome] is one opera that is as shocking today as it was at its premiere in 1905. Verdi: Simon Boccanegra

The sumptuous production by Giancarlo del Monaco features the return of legendary tenor Plácido Domingo, this time in the baritone title role. It also stars Adrianne Pieczonka as Boccanegra’s long-lost daughter Amelia, with James Levine conducting the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra and Chorus. Puccini: Manon Lescaut

Manon Lescaut is an opera in four acts by Giacomo Puccini. The story is based on the 1731 novel L’histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut by the Abbé Prévost.Recorded Live at the Metropolitan Opera.
